Thankful
Posted on November 25, 2010 with 3 commentsI am thankful for...
- every morning that I wake up.
- all five senses.
- the sound of that first G chord against a brand new set of strings.
- a brother whose sole desire in this life is to bring laughter to the lips, peace to the mind, and joy to the heart of the world.
- the first hot meal in over six months that many folks, many children especially, will get to enjoy- if only for today.
- good examples.
- bad examples.
- sisters who, not even for a single second, have shown me anything but the greatest affection and consideration.
- the road to manhood being so long.
- the solid ground.
- the world of "yesterday, tomorrow, and fantasy."
- a mother who brings me random, little gifts; dances in hallways; and holds my hand.
- language.
- the National Football League.
- a father who does not quit on anything or anyone- especially himself.
- popcorn, hotdogs, ridiculously large quantities of soda, and two hours of magic.
- that new-anything smell.
- a step mother who gives me the peace of mind that comes with knowing that the care and future of my father and sisters is in the most capable of hands.
- the love that I have won...and lost.
- love- in every way, shape, and form.
- a grandmother who supports who I am becoming, and a grandfather who won't let me get away with who I am.
- waves.
- the mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters of the armed forces.
- my large, beautiful, and dynamic extended family.
- the capacity for both pain and pleasure.
- women everywhere.
- the incredible loyalty of my friends, who are constantly either picking me up or pushing me forward.
- dreams that become realities.
- a "safe home, and a warm bed; on a quiet little street."
- you, for reading this.
What are you thankful for?
Happy Thanksgiving.
